In the SEO business there are tons of self claimed experts out there, but who should you really believe when it comes to understanding advanced SEO techniques? And where do you go if you have questions about algorithms and updates in Google? Here i’ll share my 6 go-to places for SEO news and updates.
Charles Floate
Probably the best SEO guy out there. I’ve heard Charles speak twice at Chiang Mai SEO Conference in 2017 and 2018. I’m going there in 2019 and I can’t wait to see what he brings this year. You should follow him if you’re interested in:
- Very advanced SEO such as:
- New linkbuilding techniques
- Negative SEO
I follow Charles on his Twitter and Website.
Matt Diggity
Matt is the founder of the Chiang Mai SEO Conference and an affiliate SEO master. His behind the website diggitymarketing.com where he blogs about affiliate SEO, algorithm updates and round ups each month in SEO. You should follow Matt if this interests you:
- Affiliate SEO
- Algorithm Updates
- SEO Case Studies
Ahrefs Blog
Third one on the list is the ahrefs blog. Ahrefs is one of the largest backlink checkers available on the market (and probably the best – i’m sure Tim Soulo would agree on this). They have a blog where they write guides for SEO, easy ways to linkbuild and get new backlinks and case studies. They also invite guest bloggers to publish for them – such as Matt we mentioned earlier. You should follow them if:
- You care about anchor text optimization and linkbuilding
- Are new to SEO and want free guides
- Wanna read about general SEO news
Search Engine Land
SEL is one of the largest online SEO magazines. They have news on Search Engines and not only organic news. They are my go to place for:
- Algorithm news
- News on PPC market
- General Search Engine News
I can also recommend you follow their top writer Barry Schwartz on Twitter. He’s by far the most advanced in SEO news on their blog.
John Mueller
John is a Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google. He’s your best shot at getting an official answer from Google when it comes to questions about the search engine and algorithm updates. He often answers users on his Twitter (see picture below) and wants to help you. He also asks the Twitter SEO community how they feel about specific updates such as “How do you feel about “mega-menus” on ecommerce sites?” or “Curious to hear from folks how they find these messages. Are they useful / insightful? How could we make them better? Let us know!” Follow John if you want to:
- Be a part of the Twitter SEO community
- Get first-hand answers to your question on Google
- Get actual questions from an official Google employee
Google SearchLiaison (Danny Sullivan)
This Twitter bio explains it all: “Official tweets from Google’s public liaison of search, @dannysullivan, sharing insights on how Google search works.”.
That is exactly what is is. Danny Sullivan – co-founder of Search Engine Land and now official Google employee and behind the official Google Twitter SearchLiaison. This twitter will give updates on changes in Google and for the first time ever they pre-announced a big algorithm update in June. (See picture)
Thats it! Leave a comment below if you feel like i’ve missed some important SEO people.
